My name is Sean Giesbrecht, and I am currently a Middle Years Teacher with Pembina Trails School Division in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am passionate about inquiry-based education, maker education, and helping students meet their goals through authentic, personally meaningful learning activities. I believe in creating a positive learning environment where all students can both work towards, as well as expand, their potential as social, emotional, and economic actors in their communities.
I am the founder and facilitator of MakerJam: A gathering of student makers to celebrate collaborative creativity. I am also pursuing a Professional Master of Education Graduate Degree from Queen’s University. This blog was started to meet a course requirement for that program, but I plan to post all of my thoughts, musings, and ramblings related to education here.
I am married to the most amazing singing accountant this side of wherever super-talented singing accountants congregate. Together, we have the cutest little Miniature Schnauzer in town, Oliver Cromwell (he really does not like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels). I am a reluctant fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, and Toronto Blue Jays.
